Water Quality Updates Following East Palestine Train Derailment

Beaver Falls Municipal Authority (BFMA), Zelienople Borough’s water supplier, has shared findings from a water test sample that was taken on February 22, 2023. No Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) were detected.

The report shows the presence of trihalomethanes (THMs), which are always present in disinfected water. The THMs that were detected in the tap sample are a result of the reaction between chlorine, which is used to disinfect water, and the natural organic matter in the water.

BFMA tests for THMs biweekly, and levels are assessed by the state quarterly. The current total THM's maximum contaminant level is 80 ug/L. The sample laboratory results report a reading of 24 ug/L as of the date of the sample collection.

Additionally, Zelienople Borough confirmed that no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) were found in a water sample collected at the entry point to our water distribution system on February 23, 2023. View the report here.
