BFMA Taste/Odor Concerns Update
Beaver Falls Municipal Authority is aware of the system-wide taste and odor concerns. In conjunction with the DEP, it has been determined that this is likely caused by geosmin, a naturally occurring, unregulated organic compound. While unpleasant, it is not associated with any health risks. All recent sampling is within federal standards, and additional sampling is being conducted. System-wide maintenance (“burnout”) and system-wide flushing have begun. This process will help mitigate taste and odor concerns and provide a complete turnover of the water within the system. The Borough will continue with distribution system flushing.
